I'd like more focus on the Internet part for services and not just the Web. Browsers are completely broken for a friend of mine with vision issues.

My email client deliberately is set to read text and not show html as it's an email client.

So sometimes I get emails (including links for webinars) that I can't read.

So the Web hasn't just ruined itself, it's ruined email. It's also made these services rubbish for anyone with accessibility issues.

It's not deliberate, but developers just don't think, change gets put out.

We failed our folks, mainly because I'm not sure that the folks developing our browsers understand that accessibility means different things to different people and no one size solution fixes all. But a good start ould be to invest more in these processes. Because reporting the issues have their own accessibility problems, so they don't get reported.

So it's no wonder the Web is shit for my friend.

It's why it's important to learn about other Internet services and protocols when you build a project. Because chances are, our friends may be using those to get at information.

One more thing, please think text first for emails. Folks who have screen readers, or like me just want text and to see what the links to the webinars are will thank you.

I think markdown was originally intended to be used for email.

I've never understood the need for formatting email, although given the fact that some folks see email as an electronic letter I can see why it would be attractive.

Markdown does beat whysiwig editors though.

@Waitman Gobble Markdown was made for a blog called Daring Fireball; it was inspired by conventions that its creator (John Gruber) had seen in email, along with predecessor markup languages.

To me, the most interesting part of Markdown was the dropping down to allow the parent language (HTML originally) for fancy stuff, as opposed to how Textile tries to cover all of HTML.

I write my worknotes in Markdown, then it is easy for me to paste it into whatever, e.g. email, Slack, Jira, etc. I did not know it was intended for email, but I have gotten quite a bit of happy feedback about sending structured text.

Markdown in email could be good for people who want to send all caps in H1 because those people feel like their email isn't beeing read unless it's visually shocking.
